{"id":2321,"date":"2022-06-24T12:21:12","date_gmt":"2022-06-24T10:21:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archiv.worldmusicfestival.sk\/?p=2321"},"modified":"2022-07-14T21:17:17","modified_gmt":"2022-07-14T19:17:17","slug":"tabanka","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archiv.worldmusicfestival.sk\/en\/tabanka\/","title":{"rendered":"TABANKA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tabanka<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a group of Cape Verdeans from Rotterdam, whose music has been inspired by that of Cape Verdean artists from an older generation, such as the well-known Bitori or band Bulimundo. The group has a fresh and contemporary take on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">funan\u00e1<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the upbeat, energetic and festive music and dance style, once forbidden by the Portuguese colonial rulers, which became part of post-independence Cape Verdean identity in the eighties. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Funan\u00e1 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was derived from the music from the descendants of slaves, mixed with contemporary pop and jazz. The base of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">funan\u00e1 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is the diatonic accordion (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gaita<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and the rasping sound of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ferrinho<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a notched metal bar played in a similar way as a Caribbean guiro. Ferrinho as an iconic musical instrument even got its own postage stamp in Cape Verde.
